Remote / Online / Telehealth Therapy & Counseling
Traditionally, therapy and counseling have taken place in-person in an office environment. However, when time or location makes it difficult to come to the office, remote therapy, aka telehealth, can be very effective.
Remote therapy takes place using a secure client portal called Simple Practice. You receive an email with a link, and when it is time for your appointment you click it. No download or install is needed.
There are some important things to remember to maximize remote therapy:
- You need a private and dedicated space – you can’t conduct business, answer calls, or be a caregiver during this time.
- Using a desktop or laptop computer with a camera and wired internet connection works best for reliability and visibility.
- You can use a mobile device, but it is difficult to hold the device steady in front of you for the entire session. Consider a hands-free setup.
- Wireless connections may result in slower response and less visibility.
- There may be technical difficulties with sound, video, and streaming. Please be familiar with your device settings and test them ahead of time.
